PEVENSEY BAY

We secured this contract for the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) in a sealed tender bid to act as the Principal Contractor for the scheme which was to remove the asbestos corrugated cladding from the Top Store storage facility on a 24/7 operational site. We had to apply new insulated cladding panels to the building as well as carry out associated builders work like hack off and renew the existing render with Sika specialist coating, new industrial floor screed and replace the existing front roller shutter door with a new electric one in colours to match the new cladding.

We had to produce all relevant construction phase plans, method statements and an environmental management and waste plan for submission to the client and their representatives before work could commence with the strict programme completion timescale of 12 weeks.

This allowed us to make good use of our supply chain to procure long lead material early In the project and to programme their start dates with military detail to achieve the tight programme which had to be achieved even if the weather was a factor.

As a condition of the contract we had to enlist in the considerate contractors’ scheme and be subject to an external site inspection audit by the federation, this was carried out and to the delight of the client we achieved an

A1 Star rating for Performance Beyond Compliance.

The project was completed 3 weeks early and delivered back to the client snag free in time for the arrival of new machinery which will be stored in the building.

FEEDBACK FROM CLIENT

This project has been one of the highlights of our project management career so far.

Throughout the whole project, from our initial meeting at the Tender Open Day with Robert to our final meeting for the handover of the building with Ray and Jacqui, they have been professional, approachable and a pleasure to work with.

To achieve a successful project, communication is a critical factor and the entire Capstan team has played a key part in this success.

The site management and management of the sub-contractors was exceptional.

It has been a pleasure to visit the construction site, not only to see the progress of the works but to catch up with Jacqui who has been a delight.

The Environment Agency as a Client expect contractors to work to an incredibly high standard of health & safety compliance and Capstan Group have embraced this throughout including the pro-active in-house health and safety compliance audits undertaken by Lynette. This was confirmed by the fantastic score and report following the Considerate Constructors Scheme audit.
